Wolves blow South away
Wednesday, 9 April 2003

Wolves 19.18 (132) d South 9.4 (58)

Wolves blew South away in an eight-goal blitz in the first quarter at Central oval on Saturday.

Hitting the ball hard and using their pace, Wolves hunted South all over the ground.

With Jarrad Reid in outstanding form, and Peter Jackson controlling rucks and marking around the ground, it gave Struck and Martin and company an armchair ride.

South scored one goal in reply to the onslaught. It was South's first score for the quarter and it came at the 26-and-a-half-minute mark.

Wolves led by 47 points at quarter-time.

South's momentum improved with Anno, Harris, Jones and company getting more of the ball.

Waye came into the game and South had quelled Wolves' run.

It had been a good quarter of footy, with South kicking four goals to Wolves' two, but the lead was 41 points at half-time.

Colson was looking good and South's endeavor had lifted.

Jackson, although still getting touches, was not as dominant.

The third term was a real slog with Wolves scoring two majors to South's one.

It was close, hard checking with both sides giving plenty.

Plenty of frees were being given but this was due to the intensity and players not getting in front.

At three-quarter time Wolves led by 49 points.

Wolves finally got back into top gear with Jackson resuming control.

Jimmy Martin, Struck and Amos were dominating and giving Reid and his forwards plenty of chances.

At times Wolves could have been even further in front.

Amos' dash from half back was inspirational and his delivery gave players down field an armchair ride.

South would not lie down and Colson was a good spearhead.

But the job was too great and Wolves ran out winners by 74 points.
